Sound and Video Installation, Choreographic Object, Cardboard Fruit Holders, Thread

Static Liverpool Residency Show

Static investigates the paradox of stillness within environments shaped by movement. Rooted in the definition of the static as something unmoving or resistant to change, the work examines how bodies navigate internal and external spaces when confronted with choreographic objects that refuse motion. By limiting the agency of these objects foreground their latent influence—how form, material, and spatial positioning continue to choreograph behaviour even in the absence of physical action.

Audio instructions such as “one step forward, three steps backward” activate the installation, creating a tension between verbal movement and material immobility. Through this interplay, Static considers the psychological and spatial repercussions of restricted movement, revealing how stillness itself can become a choreographic force
