Indy Biennial 2025
The Jesus Chapel, St Margaret of Antioch Church

W O O L is a multi-channel filmic sound installation and live performance exploring language, place, and identity. Taking its name from the Scouse slang ‘Woollyback’—a term for those from beyond the city—W O O L traces the material and cultural journey of wool from rural Wales, through Cheshire, and across the Mersey.

Through performance and sound, the artists activate the ambient and material histories connecting these landscapes. Weaving together folkloric craft traditions and the collective energy of Scouse football culture, W O O L reflects on ritual, belonging, and the layered foundations—both physical and social—of Liverpool.

A collateral exhibition to this year’s Biennial theme BEDROCK.
