Crawling the Walls, 2023
Performance, Sound
LAC, Portugal
Containing the sound of space — the solitary act of being, living, or moving alone. Here, confinement emerges as both an imposed boundary and an internal state of self-contained existence. Performed inside a room that had historically served as a solitary confinement cell, the work deepens the tension between physical restriction and internal experience.
Entering a state is shaped by the space that holds it: energetically by what the environment contains, and consciously by what it has the potential to become. Crawling the walls is an interplay between isolation and presence, exploring how physical spaces both influence and are influenced by the energies and awareness within them. Using a contact microphone, the performance embodies the space itself, and solitude and confinement unfold quietly through the act.
